Painting a teal dresser for my daughter’s room
Country Chic Paint sent paint and finishes to paint this dresser. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Meagan is currently obsessed with the color teal. We haven’t done much decorating in her room yet, but she does have a teal table as a nightstand, a teal blanket on her bed, a teal splatter of paint on her wall (not intentional) and now she finally has a beautiful dresser in her favorite color too!
We found the dresser on Craigslist, and picked up one for my 12 year old’s room too from the same lady. I’ll post about that one soon. Here’s how it looked before we got started.
After removing the old hardware (some of which was decaying anyway) and filling the holes, we painted two coats of Bliss (chalk paint) from Country Chic Paint on the dresser and drawers. It was fun working on it together!
You can see in this next picture where the bottom part only has one coat of paint. After two it’s covered perfectly.
To ensure a very durable top, I put Tough Coat on the top of the dresser. Everything else was covered with natural wax. Be sure to apply the Tough Coat before applying any wax to the piece. It’s not meant to go over any wax.
The top drawers got new glass knobs and the bottoms drawers are now sporting pewter cup pulls, both from D Lawless Hardware.
But just because it turned out beautifully doesn’t mean there weren’t some hiccups along the way. At one point, I had the paint can inside a drawer that was tipped up on its end so we could paint the front. I picked up the drawer to move it to a different location, forgetting the paint was in there! It dropped to the ground and sent paint flying on the wall, door, bed and floor.
It took some work, but the carpet came out almost completely clean, the door was a breeze, and there’s a funny patch of teal on the wall now that will get painted over eventually. And, we still had enough paint to finish the job. So, while it’s super convenient to use Country Chic Paint inside because it doesn’t smell, you have to be extra careful about spilling!
We both love her new dresser and figure the paint mishap was still worth it. What do you think?

The dresser is so lovely. I love the teal paint, and those pewter cup pulls.
