kid craft ideas

Over the next few posts I’m going to take you through our Craft Camp I held last week and hopefully you’ll find some fun ideas of things to do with your own kids, by yourself, or even have your own craft camp!  Stick around to the end of the post for a fun giveaway too.

Basically what I’ll do in these posts is let you see what we did each day, but then I’ll also have more detailed information, occasional printables and tips or things I learned along the way to help you recreate any of it.

Day 1:  Monday 10 am – noon
Camp Poster
Face paint
Pinatas
Snack (cracker packs)
Wood Slice Necklaces

Day 1 Details
As everyone was arriving they worked on coloring the poster I’d laid out on the floor.  It was just Ikea coloring paper on a roll and they colored it with crayons.  I also took this time to check the shirt size of everyone by just having them try one on over whatever they were wearing, and I took notes of who needed what size.

For the face painting DecoArt sent me their People Paint markers and they were so fabulous.  They colored wonderfully and the tip made it so easy to draw, add detail and use multiple colors.  I will never go back to greasy or dry and flaky versions of face paint again.  The girls paired up and painted on each others’ faces and hands. I even let them use me!

I made a “cheeks only rule” so that they didn’t ride home in cars with body art all over their arms and legs 🙂

I made a paper mache paste that was 3 cups flour and 3 cups water plus 1 tablespoon salt.  Some girls really hated the feel of the paste on their hands, so they didn’t get very far, but most girls got two layers of newspaper strips spread across their balloons.  We were going to do this on a second day too, but I decided to just add a couple more layers to everyone’s on my own since not everyone enjoyed it.  PLUS, I bought balloons from the dollar store, and about half of them collapsed before the paper mache dried and I had to make new ones for them any way.  Buy better balloons.

We cleaned up hands and they had a snack while I got out supplies for the next project.  They made wood slice necklaces just like these ones I posted about here.  I had already sanded them, drilled holes and added the split ring. When they finished coloring them with markers I just had to string ribbon through and tie it long enough so they could fit over their heads.

Now that I’ve told you how great People Paint is, who wants to win some?  TWO winners will get one marker in every color (that’s black, white, red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple)

Use the Rafflecopter form to log your entries.  And keep checking back for more of our camp adventures!
