Summer means grilling! And what better way to kick up your entertaining than with some fun new hot dog recipes. I’m showing off my latest creation today–a grilled hot dog topped with maple glazed onion, smoked Gouda cheese and yellow mustard. Sound good to you? Let’s get started…
Pick up the following from your local Fred Meyer: (or other Kroger stores, where you can save up to $2 on packages of Hebrew National hot dogs.)
Hebrew National Reduced Fat Beef Franks (these taste so good you’ll have no idea they’re reduced fat!)
Hot dog buns
Smoked Gouda cheese
Anything else you want with your meal. . . fruit, chips, etc.
We love Hebrew National hot dogs because they are made from only 100% kosher beef. There are no artificial colors, flavors, fillers or by-products. And they taste delicious.
Back at home you need to fire up your grill and make the maple onions while that’s heating up. Cut onion into slices, then large chopped pieces. Melt 1 TBS butter in the pan on medium heat and add onions to saute. Cook about 5 minutes.
Add 1 TBS brown sugar, 1 TBS maple syrup and 1/2 tsp ground pepper and stir the onion to coat and cook an additional minute.
Spread onions on a piece of wax paper to cool.
Grill up the franks and toast the hot dog buns–you can set them right on the grill, face down, for the last 60 seconds that the hot dogs are cooking.
Place hot dogs in bun and top with a line of mustard and top with onions and gouda cheese. The sweet onion paired with maple and mustard work so well on a hot dog you’ll wonder why you’ve never eaten them like this before!
