Last month I shared this Christmas decor on Crafting Chicks, but I wanted to make sure you didn’t miss it! It’s pretty, shiny, and if you cut out your own design, it’s totally custom.

Recently, with my husband’s help, I made a gold painted “Mr & Mrs” for the head table at my brother’s wedding dinner. I loved the look so much I wanted something for Christmas that we could have in our house.

You could do this same idea with any cut out letters or word. We got to cut out our own (read more about our X-carve machine) so I got to design it with the font and the size I wanted. It’s cut from 3/4 inch MDF and is about 6 inches tall and 13 inches wide.

I had to sand the cut edges smooth, and if you cut something similar with a scroll saw or jigsaw you may have to do the same. Something purchased will probably ready for paint.

I used Modern Masters metallic gold paint and put two coats on everything. Don’t forget the inside cut outs.

When the paint is all dry, it’s ready to display.

I put it on my mantel. Since we moved back in February, and our new house has a fireplace with a mantel! I added a few other Christmas decorations (I think my husband was a little surprised to see these things out already.) But I also think I’ll have fun moving pieces around in the next week or so to get everything just right.

I hope I’ve given you some ideas to spark some Christmas decorating. Where in your house would you put one of these? Want one just like it? Let me know and I can make one for you too!
