Flocked HTV for Hats

Today’s tip – Flocked HTV for Hats might save your project!

Ok, here’s the story. I was making hats for my sister in law, and she liked the combo of a dark gray had with white vinyl. So I cut out the letters from iron-on, and started to apply them – and immediately saw a problem.

The thin HTV was getting wrinkly against the structured hat! And it did not look good.

It was too thin to hold its shape – so I made a swap!

I reheated the HTV and used my weeding hook to pull all the vinyl off the hats.

Then I re-cut with flocked iron-on, and this is the result!

Since the flocked HTV is a bit thicker, it was able to hold it’s shape and not get wrinkled up against the hat. It looks so much better!

So keep this in mind if you have any hats to make in the future!

Today’s Tip: Flocked Iron-On for Hats

  • Regular Iron-on / HTV can be so thin that it wrinkles when applied to a structured hat
  • Flocked is thicker and the cuts hold their shape when pressed!
  • BONUS – There’s a “flocked” material setting in Design Space.
  • Application: Preheat 3 seconds, Apply medium pressure at 311°F for 10-15 seconds, cold peel.
