A few weeks ago I participated in a Scrapbusting Challenge at Flamingo Toes. We were supposed to look through our scraps of fabric, paper, ribbon, whatever, and find a way to use them up in a pretty project.

I made a cutout hello card with colorful stripes of paper and I think you’ll like how easy it is!

Start by using a cutting machine to cut a white card with a shape or word in it (what’s great is you can customize this technique for any kind of card.)

Cut another piece of cardstock just smaller than the front of the card.

Cut colored paper into thin strips. Mine were about 3/8 inch wide, but this can vary. I then cut them about 5 inches long….long enough to span the front of the card.

Glue the paper strips on the extra piece of cardstock.

Then glue to the inside of the card so all the colors show through. Super easy, right? With the white card is was best to use brighter/deeper colors. I’d love to try this with a really dark cardstock, then use lighter strips, or even more pattern. You just want to make sure there’s good contrast between the card and the layer underneath.

So, what do you think? If you make a card with your paper scraps, we’d love to see it!

If you really like this design of this one, you can download the svg here.
