Painted Polka Dot Plate

A while back I was sent some Gloss Enamel paint from DecoArt.  I’ve used it a couple of times now, and this is the first project I tried out with it.

I started out with a glass cup from the dollar store and a plate from Ikea.

I picked 3 different colors and using the eraser of a regular pencil made dots all over the back of the plate.  I did the same thing with the cup but just overlapped some of the layers after letting them dry.  I made sure to paint on the back side of the plate so it’s still food safe.

The packaging says to let everything air dry for 4 days then to bake to permanently set the paint.   In a Mark Montano video I watched, he says you can get around the long drying time by just baking it twice.

So you put the items into a cool oven.  Turn it on to 325, and when it’s heated set the timer for 30 minutes.  When the timer’s finished, open the oven door and let cool inside the oven.  When it’s back down to room temperature, repeat the whole process.

Just recently I picked up 3 different cups from Ikea to let me kids paint their own.  I’ll be sure to let you see how those turn out!  AND–speaking of DIY, I forgot to send you over to Craftaholics Anonymous last week where I showed off these toy bags I made for Asher’s room!
