When to Change Cricut Blades

It might be time to change your blades!

You’ve probably got a few sharp things in your craft room. And having those at peak performance makes your cuts cleaner and, at least for me, keeps irritation to a minimum.

How do I know it’s time to change a Cricut blade?

There’s no perfect or strict timeline for replacing your Cricut machine blade.

But if you notice rough edges on paper cutting, or vinyl that either puckers a bit or doesn’t seem to be cutting evenly all around the shape, it’s definitely time to swap out for a new blade.

How to replace Cricut machine blade

Open the clamp holding the blade housing.

Press the button down on top. This action pushes the blade out of the housing and you can carefully grab it and pull it the rest of the way out.

Remove the rubber cap off a new blade.

With the button on the housing depressed, insert the dull end of the blade up into the housing and release the button.

The magnet will pull the blade up into the housing and it can go back into the clamp in the Cricut.

Did you know you can also replace the blade on your paper trimmer!

I recently did and was amazed at the clean cuts I was suddenly getting. Trimming a photo edge? No Problem! Fuzzy fibers on my cardstock? Never again!

Replacement blades are often on sale on the Cricut site

Today’s Tip: Swap in new cutting blades

Fresh blades can eliminate a lot of frustration by providing clean smooth cuts with your machine and your paper trimmer
