Get Rolled Materials to Stick to Mat

I love any little tip that makes my crafting life easier!

Like many years ago, when I first learned about turning the mat upside down and rolling it away from the paper to keep the paper from curling up! So great for keeping the cut-out’s proper shape!

This next one, I discovered on my own, but you may have seen other people do it.

Have you tried putting down vinyl or infusible ink that still wants to hold its curl? Part of it always seems to stick to the mat where you don’t want it to, so you have to pull it up without damaging it, and then the mat shifts anyway and you have to start all over!

So here’s my trick: Slide the mat most of the way under the open lid of your machine. The lid will help hold your material while you align one edge of the material and get it placed.

Today’s Tip: Get curly material to lay flat

  • Slide the mat under the open lid of the machine
  • With just a small amount sticking out, lay the roll of material on the lid
  • Align the edge near you with the bottom of the mat and press it down well
  • Slide the mat towards you while continuing to press down more of the material

BONUS- If the material is lifting from the mat at all, try adding extra pressure with a brayer, use a bit of washi tape around the edges, or try a stickier / newer mat

There’s a short video on this onesie post where you can watch this tip in action.
