This is a great, easy craft project that will make a unique 3D canvas artpiece perfect for a kids room or gallery wall. Customize it with your favorite colors and it can go anywhere!

March is National Craft Month.  It’s true; I checked on Google.  What better way to jump into the month than to cross something off my list? This idea has been floating around in my head for the girls’ room for a couple of years.  I’ve made nearly 100 magnets using these directions from Not Martha.  I wanted to use just the marble part without a magnet.  Here’s what you’ll need if you want to try your hand at it:

MATERIALS

  • Clear Silicone
  • Canvas
  • Paper
  • Clear Flat Glass Gems
  • Wax paper (to protect table)

I sold magents in my Etsy shop when it was running, and have given them as gifts.  To make this wall art, I followed all the same steps except for using a magnet.  I set them upside down on a cookie sheet so I can transport them easily.  The silicone is a bit smelly, so I like to leave them in the garage, or a bathroom with the fan on.

After the silicone dried I hot glued each gem to an 8×8 canvas.  Inspiration for their room decor will come from these colors.

Do think you’ll make one? I kind of want to see someone do a really big canvas, not just an 8×8. If you take my challenge, be sure to send me a picture 🙂
