DIY Love Marquee

{Love sign for Valentine’s Day made from wood and mini Christmas ornaments}

Love Marquee | Crafting in the Rain

This pretty little addition is now sitting on my piano and makes a perfect decoration for Valentine’s Day.

Here’s how I made it:
The base is just a piece of plywood.  It was already cut to this size from some long-done project (possibly the roof on the shed?)  It measures 13 x 16 inches.  The “light bulbs” are these tiny Christmas ornaments I found on clearance at Michaels.  You could also use any kind of round bead for the same look.

I watered down some brown and black paint and brushed it on and rubbed it in, kind of like a stain.

I cut vinyl letters using my Cricut to fit on the board and cut out circles to mark where I wanted the tiny ornaments to go.(The font is called Budmo Jiggler)  I drew little dots in the center of each one with a pencil.

With the letters in place, I brushed Mod Podge all around the edges to make sure no paint seeped underneath.

Then I painted around the letters (not the circles inside the letters) with DecoArt Bubblegum Pink.  I did two coats for good coverage.

I peeled off the vinyl and used a drill to make little holes on each pencil mark so the tops of the tiny ornaments could go in them.  I didn’t drill completely through though!

Finally I put a bit of E600 on one of the ornament tops and set it down in the holes and let it dry.

This may just be something that can stay up year round! Think my husband will notice if the pink is permanent?
