We moved into this house back in February, and it was definitely a blank slate for us. The house is about 12 years old, but the walls have never been painted anything but white. We revamped the whole main level with paint, new floor, new counters and new hardware in the kitchen. Most of the upstairs has been left alone so far because, frankly, we needed a break!

But Quilted Northern challenged me to create a “crafted experience” for one of my bathrooms and I knew it was time to add some color to the kids bathroom, as well as fix some organization problems. And I did it all for less than $40!

I picked up my Quilted Northern from Walmart and got to work.

Here were the problems I needed to address:
1) Too white– no color in here anywhere!
2) No place for extra toilet paper (this part of the bathroom is separate from the counter and sinks)– doesn’t it look so great up there on the windowsill?
3) Can’t reach the towel rod from the shower
4) Wet footprints on the bare floor after every shower

Then here’s how I fixed them:
1) Colorful shower curtain and custom artwork.

Simply buy a canvas from the craft store (use a coupon) and a few colors of paint. Squeeze out a nickle to quarter sized amount near the bottom of the canvas and drag it up towards the top with the brush. Clean or change brushes between colors.

2) Toilet paper storage crate. Buy an unfinished crate (again from the craft store with a coupon) and stain or paint.

I used a dark walnut stain to finish mine. Brush it on with a foam brush and wipe with a cloth.

It darkens right up! When it dried I had a much lovelier way to keep extra toilet paper in the bathroom. Quilted Northern Ultra Soft and Strong is sewer and septic safe, and has offered quality and comfort for over 100 years.

3) Instead of installing a whole extra towel rod, I put up two hooks under the window, near the shower. Now a towel is always in arms reach from the shower!

4) A new bath mat keeps little wet feet from slipping and also leaving puddles.

What’s your favorite addition to this colorful kids bathroom and “crafted experience”?

I also have to tell you about my absolute favorite toilet paper  holder–the bar pivots–no springs to deal with, so even kids can replace the roll!

I love the hooks! So much better than a towel rod. We also have a rustic basket for our extra TP in our guest bath.

Great ideas! I love hooks for my kiddos to use. They never seem to understand a towel rack, but a hook is easy enough!

Love the bin for the toilet paper! I hadn't though about needing something like that, but we will!

It's amazing how a few little pops of color can really transform the room! It looks beautiful! #client
