If you’re new to the 31 day series, over 1200 bloggers have chosen a theme they want to write about every day in October ranging from food or fashion to faith or fabric.  See the whole list atThe Nester.  I decided to focus on trying to be a better mom, and you can see my first post here.

Day 5: No Yelling
I stared at this blank post for a while today, wondering how to start it.  I have no funny story, and no way to really sugar coat it.  So I’ll just come out and say it:  Sometimes I yell at my kids.  Ouch.  That’s kind of painful and embarrassing to admit at the same time.

What’s strange is that I wouldn’t say that it’s part of my personality.  I rarely got riled up with friends and family while I was growing up (I don’t know–maybe my siblings have different memories…)  What is it about being a mom that can make me happier than I could imagine and more frustrated than I could imagine?

My kids don’t deserve that.  They’re wonderful, and I want them to know I believe that.

Having identified this as something that I’m actively working on, what are your suggestions for keeping your cool and not raising your voice with your kids?
