I’m going to tell you a little about how she came to us, and why I love the concept of NudgeThemBack.com. (Head over for lots of ways to show your doggie that you care!) She’s a 2 year old Chihuahua mix that we adopted from the Humane Society last October and she’s been a lot of fun. Several weeks earlier we actually brought home a different dog, but only had him for a week—there were many reasons he wasn’t the right dog for our family.
It was pretty traumatic for all of us to have to take him back. We were so sad! But we eventually decided we were ready to try again. I wasn’t sure I wanted a Chihuahua honestly, but when we took all the kids to meet her, she was so fun and playful that I knew she’d be a good fit.

Like I said before, it had been pretty rough on the family, and especially me, when we decided we couldn’t keep the first dog. I felt like a failure, I felt like I was disappointing my kids because I was breaking down crying every day about the troubles we were having with him. (We actually found out from the Humane Society that he’d been adopted again, within a couple of weeks, and it was working out great with the guy who took him home.) But the second time around I was in a much better place—I was settled in my routine of having all my kids in school (including my baby in Kindergarten) plus my college class I’d started taking too.
She loves to keep me company when I’m working on my college classes online. Look how cuddly she is!
And the kids love taking turns with her leash when we go walk around the lake.
Since she’s been so great for us, we definitely like to treat her during little training sessions, or just for fun. These new Nudges® Grillers and Sizzlers are a new favorite of hers. She likes the Sizzlers Beef & Cheese and the Grillers Steak flavors. I like that they are real-food inspired with USA-sourced real meat as their number one ingredient with no artificial flavors or fillers.
I take one and break it up into a bunch of little pieces. She’s small, so she doesn’t need much, but this way she can have a bunch of rewards from just one treat! The wholesome dog treats remind her that she’s an important part of our family.
I’m so glad we decided to try again with a family dog. She’s been good for the kids as they help take care of her and play with her too.
You also know I can’t pass up a chance to play with my vinyl cutter, so I labeled her plastic food mat with her name. You could use a permanent outdoor vinyl if you want, but I just used the regular craft vinyl I already had and I’m just gentle when I wash it. Design the name you want, cut, and apply to the mat with transfer tape.
Looking to try these for your dog? Grab them in the pet section of Walmart. You can also find new Jerky Cuts 36-oz value size.
If you have a dog, I’d love to hear how they joined your family. Or share on the Nudges Dog Treats Facebook page!
