I know you guys will all be excited about today’s post! I have a fun 4th of July project for you–be sure to stick around to the end so you can enter the giveaway for $200 to your choice of JoAnn or Home Depot sponsored by coupons.com. Think of what you could do with that!
Let me show you what I did with a few items from JoAnn–using my JoAnn coupon of course.
Supplies:
24×24 stretched canvas
White foam core board
Gold dot burlap (or other fabric of your choice)
Red, Blue and White paint (I used Apple Barrel colors Cardinal Crimson and Turquoise)
Masking tape (stick better to the canvas than blue painters tape in my experience)
Red paper/patterned cardstock
1–Tape herringbone pattern on the canvas.
2–Paint all edges with white paint. This lets the white paint seep under any the tape anywhere that it might, leaving a nice crisp line when you use the colored paint. (Also, I’m all about being honest, so it’s not totally fool proof…I still had a couple of tiny spots that I went back and touched up with white paint. But nothing in this photo was touched up, doing the white layer of paint first really does make a huge difference!)
3–Alternate red and blue in each section of the pattern. Remove tape.
4–Cut a 12 inch square from the foam board using an exacto knife or box cutter. Please be careful of course! Cut fabric with 2 or 3 extra inches on each side. Wrap square with fabric and secure tightly around the back with hot glue. Be careful here too 🙂
5–Cut a star about 7.5 to 8.5 inches across out of the red paper.
6–Layer star on fabric on canvas, attaching with hot glue. Add a picture hanger to the back canvas frame, or just set the art on a mantel.
How do you think it turned out?
Now, for the exciting part for you guys. Pops and Podge has put together this great team of bloggers to work on this giveaway, and they each have a cool 4th of July project to show you too. I hope you’ll check them all out, and good luck!
