{OREO Cookie Ball Recipe}

Now that Thanksgiving is over, we’re full swing into the Christmas season. We know parties are on the horizon and I have the perfect treat for you to put together. If you need to bring something to add to the dessert table, make sure it stands out!

This lovely Christmas tree is made of white chocolate covered OREO cookie balls and you won’t believe it’s so easy.

First off, my girls really wanted to show off where we found the OREOs at Walmart.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 pkg. (8 oz) brick cream cheese, softened
  • 36 OREO Cookies, finely crushed (about 3 cups)
  • 4 pkg. (4 oz each) semi-sweet baking chocolate, melted
  • OPTIONAL: I replaced the semi-sweet chocolate with white chocolate/almond bark and added red candy melts as well.

For the tree:

7 inch foam cone
white yarn
toothpicks

Start by making the OREO cookie balls. Blend OREOs in the blender until they’re all tiny crumbs. Mix cream cheese and cookie crumbs until blended. Shape into 48 1-inch balls and freeze for 10 minutes.

Dip balls into melted almond bark and place on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Drizzle red candy melts across the top of each cookie ball and refrigerate for 1 hour.

While they are chilling, it’s time to prep the foam piece. Starting at the top, wrap yarn around the whole cone, securing at both the top and the bottom with glue. This will prevent any bits of foam dust from getting onto the treats.

To apply OREO balls to the tree, first stick a toothpick into the foam at a diagonal. Then place the ball onto the other end. Repeat until the tree is covered. Depending on the size of your foam cone, you may need more or fewer balls. Once the tree is full, place remaining around the base on a plate.

Here are a few tips for you:

  • Spray hands with cooking spray.
  • Roll cookie crumb mixture longer than you think you need to and this will make them smoother.
  • Add a bit of vegetable oil to melted candy to make it a bit easier to work with.
  • Dip balls twice if using white to cover completely.

Which holiday gathering would you take this to?
