This summer we’ll be traveling to Idaho to spend the weekend with my Grandma to celebrate her 80th birthday. To make it extra special, we’re turning it into a family reunion as well, so we’ll have about 50 people there, including a couple of great grand-children!
In anticipation of this fun event, I knew this Tree of Life Necklace from Hallmark Jewelry would be a perfect Mother’s Day gift for her. Just like a tree begins with a single seed, “Family begins with love.” Roots grow deep to give a solid start and then branches out to children, grandchildren, and on.
My grandma has always been so supportive and interesting in what I’m doing and what my family is up to. Plus I love that she and my grandpa raised my mom, which helped her become, and continue to be the best mom for me. I remember her telling us the fun stories about living on a farm when she and my grandpa first got married. Or of Christmas traditions from when she and her sisters were growing up. To accompany the necklace I made this beautiful card to send along with it. Even if you don’t usually make cards, this is a simple recipe for making a beautiful one, with just 5 pieces.
- 1 blank card (cardstock )
- 2 coordinating scrapbook paper (hint: look for double-sided paper, because it’s an automatic match!) . . . cut to [3.75 x 5 inches] and [4.25 x 1.5 inches]
- 1 large embellishment (a decorative flower, heart, tag, etc)
- 1 small embellishment (a small heart, gem, word, etc)
Then all you have to do is layer the pieces. Glue down the larger paper, then the smaller one, using small drops of glue or tape runner. Then add the two embellishments.
Finally write your message inside, which is sure to be just as treasured as the beautiful and classic jewelry. The necklace is polished sterling silver with cubic zirconia studded leaves for extra sparkle. It comes on an 18 inch chain with a spring-ring clasp.
