You’ll never guess what I’m using the free Moon Surface shape in Design Space for…
Custom Washi Tape!!
Ok, so first basic tip, is that you can use your Cricut to make your own washi tape.
There are a bunch of washi tape design files in Design Space, but none of them are free.
You can also just pattern fill several long skinny rectangles then print and cut on sticker paper and peel off and tear into small strips when you’re ready to use.
But here’s the fun part using this Moon Surface – the Cricut will cut a cool jaggedy edge for you!
Search for “Moon Surface” in the images.
- Add to your canvas, ungroup, and delete the small black layer and the white layer.
- Resize the moon layer to be 6.72 inches wide (making it about 2.5 inches wide)
- Create two rectangles both 6.75 inches tall, one at .7 inches wide and one at .5 inches wide.
- Overlap and slice alternating widths from the moon shape.
This gives you long strips with one “cut” end. - You can also cut and weld the two jaggedy edges to slice out shorter rectangles.
- Then fill with patterns, or slice from an uploaded photo!
Ok, so I’ve probably done a deeper dive than just a “Minute” so here’s a video to go along with it to explain everything in Design Space.
Today’s Tip: Make Custom Washi Tape
- Fill rectangles with patterns or colors
- OR – use the fun jagged edge of the Moon Surface design to slice the classic “torn edge” look
- BONUS: Print out on Cricut printable vinyl, or another brand of cheaper full sheet sticker labels. Great for cards, journals, planners and calendars!
