My kids have had so much fun with their new balloon boppers game! You can make several of these for cheap, and they come together quickly too. They would be great for playgroup, a family reunion, or just rainy day fun.

Supplies for balloon boppers

(affiliate links)

These supplies can usually be found at a dollar store or cheap section of another store.

  • car wash sponges (This one is under $4, but look at your $1 store first!)
  • paint stirrer or ruler
  • balloons – regular, or we really liked these large punch ball balloons (they’re under $1 at this link)

Sand the paint stick so there are no splinters. Paint with craft paint or spray paint.

Use a serrated knife to cut a slit into the center of the sponge on one end, and cut a depth about to the middle…please don’t cut your hand!  Spread some hot glue on the end of the stick and push it into the cut sponge.

Blow up a few balloons and let the kids go crazy…but not too crazy 🙂 Since the sponges are nice and soft, there is little chance that anyone will get injured. Great cheap fun- hope you’ll try it!

The kids can see how long they can keep it off the ground or try passing the balloons back and forth to each other.

If you want to do this activity outside, consider getting a larger, heavier blow up  “punch ball” as it won’t be so easily lost in the breeze.
