No matter what 2025 has in store for you, I hope you’ll get time to be creative. There’s something empowering about seeing something you made and knowing that it didn’t exist until you came along 🙂
Today’s Cricut tip is Pen Storage!
I was doing some craft room cleanup this last weekend and was amazed by how many Cricut pens I own. I had – Cricut pens, Cricut gel pens, Cricut glitter pens, Infusible Ink pens, Infusible Ink markers, not to mention all the other pens I have for planners and regular writing.
I thought I might fill a couple of jars, but I had enough for a whole shoebox!
If you have unorganized pens and markers all over your space like I did, first get them together in one location, box, or whatever.
Then split them out into like-items. I don’t want to keep my Infusible Ink markers with my planner pens.
Then turn on good show and start testing all the pens on some scratch paper.
Want to know my sad discovery? Most of my Infusible Ink Pens had dried up even though I barely used them! But they were old.
Turns out they don’t have an indefinite shelf life. (And I was storing them with their tip up instead of down so it was easier for them to dry out!)
So, throw away all the pens that have dried up and don’t work.
Then you’re going to have some pens stored best flat, and some pens stored best tip down.
Flat: Gel pens, markers, highlighters
Vertical, tip down: Cricut pens, ballpoint, felt tip
Some ideas for flat storage are a pencil case or drawer. Ideas for vertical include jars and vases, or desk organizers with slanted pen cubbies.

- Gather all pens and sort them into like types
- Check all on scrap paper and toss any that are dried out
- Store the rest correctly to get the longest life
- BONUS: In my experience and research. . .
- FLAT – Gel pens, markers, paint pens, dual tip
