I’m excited to have joined up with some talented creative bloggers–most of whom I had the pleasure of meeting at SNAP a couple of months ago.
We’re all bringing you a Summer-themed post today and I went totally literal with a Summertime Sign!
The colors are perfect and the stripes just make me happy 🙂
Here’s what you’ll need:
Board
Paint: Gray, White + 2 more colors
Vinyl (and cutting machine)
Brushes
Vaseline
Sandpaper
Start by painting a wood board with dark gray paint. I’ve had this board forever and it’s been a couple of different colors already. You can use scrap wood or pick up a more finished looking piece from the craft store.
Let it dry and smear some Vaseline around the edges and corners.
Paint the whole thing with white paint, and know that it will take at least two coats. I lightly smoothed everything with a fine grit sand paper when it was dry too. Rub just a little harder on the edges that have the Vaseline to reveal the gray underneath.
Make even stripes across the board with painters tape and press the edges well. I used DecoArt Soft Jade for my stripes.
Cut a stencil of the word SUMMERTIME in a block font and the words “and the livin’ is easy” in a script font.
Place the stencil on the board and paint. I used DecoArt Shrimp.
Remove stencil and let dry.
Layer the rest of the words and apply them to the board.
Now it’s officially summer at your house!
