{Smooth out the morning routing by starting the night before…posted on Brassy Apple last month}
Starting the morning off right make such a different for how the rest of the day goes. Aren’t things so much harder when you hear your kids saying “I can’t find my other shoe!” “Have you seen my jacket?” “Where’s my yellow notebook?” I’m sure I’m not the only one!
In an effort to make things run smoother we created Tomorrow Boxes. Every night before the girls go to bed they pick out the clothes they want to wear the next day and put them in the box, including shoes (at least next to the box, or they go in first so no dirt will get on the clothes) This way, if someone runs out of pants or socks (though this doesn’t happen when we stay on our laundry schedule…but that’s a post for another day) there is time to fix the problem.
The best thing of course is that you can just use them in a way that works for you! Use them for school library books, homework due tomorrow, etc.
I bought a 2-pack of boxes from IKEA and a roll of wood-grain shelf liner from the dollar store. Cut the liner in half the long way, and it will wrap all the way around the sides of the box. Snip the corners and fold the excess down into the box, and underneath, like wrapping a present.
I had the girls each decorate their own label by painting on a piece of posterboard 3 x 6 inches. When the paint dried I cut their names from white vinyl and pressed them on. A bit of tape behind each corner holds them to the sides of the box and now they know which one is theirs.
Hopefully, this little project can help you and your kids be less stressed on school mornings! Do you have tips for an easier morning routine?
