Supplies for making Tinkerbell shoes

How to dye white canvas shoes

Prepare the shoes

Remove laces from the shoes. You can dye them, but they don’t pick up the color very well. Mine just turned pale green.

Combine water and dye

Add enough hot water to your container so the shoes will be completely covered.

Pour in about 1/4 cup of the green dye and stir with a paint stick (or something else that you don’t care if it gets dye on it.) You can also add 1/4 cup salt which can help the shoes absorb the color.

Dying shoes

Push shoes down into the dye bath, along with the laces if you’re dying then. Swish around a bit for 5-10 minutes.

Remove the shoes and rinse thoroughly. The dye mixture is still good if you have something else you want to dye. Otherwise, rinse down the sink (and clean up any drips immediately.)

Drying dyed shoes

Allow the shoes to air dry. Stuffing them with paper towels and changing those out over the next few hours helps a lot.

When they are completely dry, attach a pom pom to each shoe top with Fabri-Tac. When the glue is dry, the shoes are ready to wear. Have fun with your new Tinkerbell shoes!
